#FOC08 - Any Seesmic Users (or potential ones)? At the risk of throwing another technology into the mix I thought I might introduce Seesmic to my fellow students of Facilitating Online Communities. If you’re interested in exploring Seesmic but aren’t sure how to get started please let me know or leave a comment and we can have a chat. If you’re on Seesmic already and would like to add me as a contact, I’m located here.

This evening I discovered that VMware has a free virtual machine player for Windows and spent some time setting things up. One thing lead to another and I found myself putting together a two-part tutorial series on how to set it up. Part One: Overview of Virtualization and Installing the VMware Player Part Two: Setting up a Virtual Machine I’ll expand on this more tomorrow, but it’s late now. In the meantime here are the links referenced in the videos: VMware Player: http://www.vmware.com/products/pl

I created this screencast for my work colleagues and thought it was worth sharing here as well. It’s a quick and dirty tour of the Isle of Zapp in SecondLife. The clip features a commentary covering basics of SecondLife, design history of the island, and ideas for future development. The island can be accessed through the following site. This map depicts an areal view and features a link to teleport to the island. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Inglewood%20Estate/41/69/22/

This post seeks to shed some light on the topics of Pageflakes, “pagecasts”, how they’re created, potential uses, and some of the issues to bear in mind when investigating their use. Note: The above clip best viewed full size.  Click on the TV icon in the embedded player above to load the full screen view, or view the clip at Blip.TV. Background Pageflakes is one of a growing number of websites that enables people to establish a personalised and customised space on the web. Unlike the websit

The rumours over the last couple of days have proven true it would seem, as Automattic has just released a WordPress blogging application for the iPhone and iPod Touch. According to the iTunes store: “Robust but simple to use, the WordPress for iPhone Open Source application allows you to create and edit content on your WordPress blog(s) with support for offline use.” ReadWriteWeb notes (”WordPress Comes To iPhone“): The new WordPress App for iPhone supports both WordPress.com installations as well

I’m going to flesh out this topic when time permits, but for the moment I’d like to offer up this discussion in response to Jason Calcanis’ recent statements that “blogging is dead.”

I’ve been experimenting with Facebook after a very long absence and have discovered that video is now available there. Having also spent some time looking for an Official Seesmic application for Facebook I’ve so far been unable to find one. Charles Cloughly indicates at least one does exist but says there’s nothing particularly substantial available currently. Charles goes on to say that “he’s game” to develop a Facebook application for Seesmic, and knows there are several other API guys out t

I just started this Seesmic thread in the hopes of gaining a better appreciation for the motives that drive people to use social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace. I’m also trying to determine what usage characteristics - if any - need to be present in an individual before social networking sites will be deemed a valuable online activity. I’ll expand on this train of thought with additional information once it becomes available. In the meantime if you have thoughts on this topic please consid

As a matter of practice I try my best to keep my criticisms positive when it comes to emerging technology, but Google Lively is starting to seem like a lemon. After a flurry of activity and scattered enthusiasm amongst early adopters in the wake of the launch of the so-called SecondLife killer, Lively has failed to impress ever since. Discussions have emerged across the blogosphere about how unacceptable a PC-only virtual world is, and now it would seem that Lively is having issues on PCs as well. As I dis

This just in. Via Kate Olson (kolson29 @ Twitter), Edublogs has recently launched a video endeavour known as Edublogs.tv, which is a forum for uploading and viewing of educational videos and audio clips. There can be little doubt that the online video niche has exploded the last few years, so one might be tempted to ask how such a targeted site like Edublogs.TV will fare against mammoth industry giants like YouTube. Furthermore with other educationally-based video sites like TeacherTube already occupying
